“Read this book, keep it by your nightstand, or even pass it on to other parents. But most important, apply what you are about to learn.”

PRAISE
"Her book [Raising Humans in a Digital World] addresses all the potential pitfalls that make parents anxious about children’s tech use. But just as importantly, she offers a way to discuss and encourage the possibilities for all the good things happening online.”

My Story
Necessity is the mother of invention. In 2010, my kids' school experienced its first cyber-incident and I was excited. You see, I’d just earned an M.A. in a new field of study—Media Psychology and Social Change—and had published a paper about digital literacy. Suddenly, here was opportunity to put academic work to use! I asked the school principal if I could teach “cyber civics” to middle school students, and he eagerly agreed. Today Cyber Civics is a comprehensive digital literacy program taught in classrooms in 42 U.S. states and internationally! And the best part? It's turning kids into thoughtful, ethical, and smart digital citizens.
Drawing upon years of in-classroom experience, my role as co-founder of Cyberwise, interviews with top experts, countless discussions with and presentations to parents, educators, and students across the U.S., this book shares what I've learned about raising humans in a digital world. It will help you help your kids build a healthy relationship with technology.
You'll find Raising Humans in a Digital World packed with fun at-home activities that any busy family can slip into their daily routine. I hope it will give you what you’ve been waiting for—a guide to raising thoughtful humans who will become the positive and successful leaders our digital (and non-digital) world so desperately needs.
